What’s new in 2.23?

I’m super happy to announce that I was able to finally merge my Setup Wizard into the plugin! Yeah! The new version will arrive during the next days. Learn more about it in this blog post.

As you probably already noticed, I’ve been working on the new setup wizard for my SNIP plugin for structured data for weeks now.
It became necessary because I get relatively negative reviews on WordPress.org. The target audience there is quite different, like on CodeCanyon. At least I could see that during my permanent blogging.

Here is a short video showing the new wizard in action:

Maybe some small things will change there. In general, I would like to spice it up a bit. For example, I would like to add some pictures and improve some technical details. But basically, I’m satisfied for now. With this, most people who become aware of my plugin via WordPress.org should be satisfied, because they get a result quickly.

What’s still missing, though, is an in-between step that asks for an email address. I’d like to run the absolute beginners into a sales funnel to a) help them better understand what Structured Data is and b) (of course) get them to buy later.

What’s next?

I’m already very happy to have reached this big milestone. As a reminder: In December I had started with it, whereby I had already coded a large part.

I’ll take another look at the feature request list, as I did back then. The first three items would be:

  1. An automatic review report when there are errors in a snippet.
  2. An easier way to copy snippets from post to post.
  3. A better support for data types.

I’m not quite sure yet how to make this work with automatic validation, because Google doesn’t currently offer an API. And writing a validator myself I think is a bit too much at this point. Everything else is no problem and will therefore slowly but surely find its way into the plugin.
